Last September, Maros Sefcovic, the Vice-President of the European Energy Commission, requested the creation of a European consortium for electric batteries. It should be noted that batteries represent an important part of the cost of electric vehicles. In fact, the cost of a battery is around 10,000 euros.
“We need the equivalent of Airbus for batteries,” he told the German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, in reference to the initiative of companies from France, Spain, Great Britain and Germany in the Seventies, to stand up to the American giant of Boeing Aerospace.
For the time being, European car manufacturers are not launching into the production of batteries. They are considered to be less expensive in Asia.
