Falling asleep at the wheel: the life-saving technology

According to the Association of French Motorway Companies, drowsiness at the wheel was the cause of a quarter of the road accidents recorded in 2016. So, if we can reduce this risk at the steering wheel we can reduce the number of accidents. This is why we have selected two innovations for you:

Connected glasses to prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel:

  • The concept? The glasses developed by the ELLCI-Healthy company contain infra-red sensors, an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The latter help identify the first signs of loss of vigilance and send an alert by sound or a LED light that flashes.
  • A monitoring system developed by Seeing Machines.

This company uses facial recognition technologies to monitor the movements of your eyes and alert you if your eyes leave the road. The technology is already in place amongst some manufacturers such as Volvo, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz and some Lexus models.
