The race against the clock in the world of innovation is proud to present its latest baby, BlaBlaLines! After the success of its carpooling service, mainly focused on long journeys, BlaBlaCar embarked on a new challenge by offering a carpooling service for short trips.
The principle of Blablalines:
The pilot version has been deployed on two routes since 2nd May, 2017, with the support of VINCI highways, running between Reims-Châlon-en-Champagne and Toulouse-Montauban. Pierre Coppey, Chairman of Vinci Motorways, says: “The Vinci Motorways Network wants to introduce this new innovative application to encourage users to change their habits, by car-pooling on their everyday commutes”. Thanks to this support, BlaBlaCar was able to collect feedback to adapt the platform and offer new features. This short-distance carpooling service will be operational throughout the Ile-de-France, Reims and Toulouse regions as from September 14th, 2017.

Do you have a car and travel short distances every day? Like many people, you will often be alone in your car and you could optimize the spare seats by taking extra passengers. This is why BlaBlaCar has developed the innovative application called BlaBlaLines. Whether you are a driver or a passenger who needs a lift, this platform will automatically put the drivers and passengers in contact with each other. The principal is to provide specific collection points, i.e. nearest to the passenger. The routes (“lines”) are available every day and passengers can immediately select a driver on the line they’re looking for.
On the BlaBlaLines application, the driver enters his daily trips, work-home for example, with the timetables and the number of places available. From then on, the pick-up points and times are set. As for the passengers, they only have to enter their chosen route and the application finds the driver with the appropriate route closest to that of the passenger. The other advantage is flexibility. If you are looking for a round trip, the application assigns a trip according to your needs. In this case, the driver for the return journey may be different from that of the outward one. Everything is done automatically to maximise the travelling time for the driver and the passenger.
How does it work?
The pilot version has been used on two lines since May 2nd, 2017. Reims-Châlon-en-Champagne and Toulouse-Montauban, with the support of VINCI highways. Pierre Coppey, President of Vinci Motorways, states: “The Vinci Motorways Network wants to introduce this new innovative application to encourage users to change their habits, by carpooling for daily trips”. This short-distance carpooling service started throughout Ile-de-France, Reims and Toulouse on September 14th, 2017.
It is a fantastic initiative of a French start-up. Its purpose is to optimise the daily use of vehicles and above all, to limit the number of empty parking places. You can download the application free of charge. The user will have to pay €2 for 30 km for carpooling, then over 10 cents per kilometre.
