Who has never got stressed out when parking a car in town? Time seems to stop as you drive round and round with the hope of finding the holy grail – that perfect parking space, that will mean that you can get out of the car at last!
According to a recent study, 20% of drivers say that they spend at least 30 minutes every day looking for a car parking space. This is the equivalent of a day’s work per month! In Paris, 1 motorist out of 3 is trying to find a car parking space right now.
This situation might soon be a thing of the past.
In any case, it’s the goal of the start-up, ZenPark, which has just launched its own app.
The principle is simple: there are many private car parking spaces (hotels, supermarkets, residential areas or offices) that have unused parking spaces, especially in the evenings and at the weekend. ZenPark catalogues these spaces enabling you to reserve them directly on your mobile phone. The application tracks them for you and indicates, in real time, nearby available spaces.
You can reserve or rent spaces with 3 different formulas: a short term one (per minute), a medium stay (per week) or long-term (per month). To access the parking space, it’s really easy: either the app opens the car parking door, or the space is fitted out with a remote-control pass (ZenPass).
As for the price, there are two possibilities: full rate to park wherever and for whatever time you need or half-price per full-day or night.
The main advantage is obviously to be able to pay less than if you parked in a space with a parking meter or in a public car park. On average, you can count on paying just a third of the price of a “traditional” monthly subscription and make savings of between 70 and 80 euros per month for a half-day pass.
The teams at Zenpark are on the ball. It takes less than an hour to set up a contract and you receive your ZenPass at the latest, the next day (a remote control to open selected car parks).
The ZenPass is extremely easy to use. You don’t need a ticket, or a credit card, it works like a motorway toll gate pass. Once inside the car park, you are guided by signs that show you where you can park.
For the moment, the company is in the process of expanding, notably outside of the Paris. In Lyon for example, the choice is mainly in the 3rd district. Like all apps based on collaborative economy, a high number of users will make this project a success.
